Ministries
The following will provide you with information about the ministries of the Lewisburg United Methodist Church.
| Alter and Sanctuary Guild |
This group works with the Worship Design Team to ensure that the visual images within the sanctuary and on the altar support the sermon's theme. This is done with a variety of images which include pictures, flowers and other props.
|
Band |
Do you enjoy singing or playing a musical instrument? If yes, come and join our band. We lead the praise of God through music at our Sunday morning services. The band is led by music ministers Daryl Foster and Rev. Valerie Browne.
| Belize Mission | A February interdenominational project where the Good News of Jesus Christ is shared through construction, painting, and intimate work with children in Belize, Central America. For more information, please visit the Mission to Belize web site. | |
| Bread Ministry | Breaking bread is symbolic of our covenant with Christ. We extend a loaf of homemade bread to our church visitors as a symbol of our desire for them to join with us in this connection to Christ. This ministry group bakes and distributes this homemade bread. Contact Jack Deam if you are interested in joining this ministry. | |
| Cabbage Patch | Cabbage Patch is a local project sponsored by the Lewisburg Area Council of Churches (LACC). This project assists needy familes in the Tri-Couny North School District during Christmas by proving food and gifts which they would not otherwise have. The LACC sponsors events throughout the year to fund this worthwhile community project. | |
| Chair Team |
Do you want to be a part of our active church, but wonder where your skill sets fit in? Come be a part of our important Chair Team. Many of the activites scheduled in our multi-purpose style sanctuary require that the chairs not be in place. This team has the important role of setting up chairs for Sunday morning worship service. Come join us as we extend the love of Christ through hospitality. |
|
| Child Care | Our children are the center of our church and we believe they have a role in all activies. Provide the gift of your loving presence with nursery through kindergarden children during a morning worship service, Sunday school, or special event. | |
| Children's Church | This Sunday Worship program is geared to children grades 1st through 5th. Here they are taught the same messages of God's love that is taught in the adult Worship. The scriptures are taught in a manner that allows the children to study and question so that they develop understanding. Children's Church starts most Sunday's with the Children's Message during the general worship service and then progresses to the Rainbow Rooms where the children continue their specialized worship program. | |
| Children's Sunday School | Do you have childhood memories of learning Bible stories in Sunday School? Do you want your children or grandchildren to have that same Christian foundation? We have Sunday School for pre-school through high school age children which meets immediately after church each Sunday at 11:15 am. Bring your child to Sunday School and stay for one of our adult classes for yourself. | |
| Choirs |
Do you have a love for music? Do you enjoy praising God through song? If yes, join one of our choirs. Regardless of your age, you can be a part of our music ministry. Whether singing in the adult choir, children's choir or the Wee Choir, we are always praising God through music. Come lift your voice to God in praise. Contact Darryl Foster if you are interested in any of our choirs. |
|
| Concerts | We enjoy praising God through music and often sponsor Christian concerts at LUMC. There are many hospitality needs when we host groups coming in to perform. You can help prepare a meal for the group or host members of the visiting group in your home. We also have many hospitality needs for the concert itself including greeters and preparing refreshments. Join with us as we celebrate Jesus in different styles of music. | |
| Family Fellowship |
Our current monthly family dinner and movie occurs the third Friday of the month, October through May. Various committees or families prepare a dinner which is followed by an adult and a children's movie selection. The schedule for meal preparation is coordinatd by the Evangelism Committee. Please see Bonnie Gibson if you would like to sign up to prepare one of these meals. The movie schedule is coordinated by the Media Team. Please see Whitt Waltman if you have a suggestion for the movie schedule. |
|
| Food Bank | The community food bank is a project of the Lewisburg Area Council of Churches (LACC) and is housed at Trinity Lutheran Church. Lewisburg United Methodist Church (LUMC) actively supports the food bank with our contributions of food and time. Food drop-off boxes are located in the cafe so that you can bring non-perishable food items to the church at any time. In our current economic climate, the food bank is providing assistance at levels never seen before. Your continuing support is needed as we extend the hand of Christ to those less fortunate. | |
| Greeters and Ushers | Have you ever entered a new place and felt uncomfortable and possibly even afraid? Our greeters are the "front line" of the body of Christ in welcoming vistors and parishioners into the house of the Lord. Whether for Sunday morning service or special events, this team is the heart of the church. As we extend that welcoming smile, that hand of friendship, we reflect the face of God. First impressions are lasting, come and join us as we create that warm and open lasting impression. This activity is coordianted through the Evangelism Committee. | |
| Grounds and Landscaping | Whether helping to mow the grass or tending to the various flower beds you are caring for our property and God's beautiful creation. This is just one of the many ways we can Glorify God. See Don Whipp if you are interested in helping with mowing. See Rosemary Meinking if you and your family are intersted in taking on the care of one of our many flower beds. | |
| Hospitality Team | We all enjoy the special "goodies" and fellowship in the cafe each Sunday. Why not bake some of your special recipes to share with your church family. See Hilde Kehr if you would like to donate items for Sunday hospitality or to become a premanent part of this team. | |
| Kitchen Team | Here at LUMC we are known for our "radical hospitality". Come join with our kitchen team as we prepare and serve food for a varierty of church and community events. See Joanne Whipp if you are interested in becoming a part of our Kitchen Team. | |
| Manorview Mission | This team has hosted various activities geared towards bringing the Word of Christ to the families of Manorview Apartments. These activites have been hosted at both the apartment complex and at the church. This group is partnering with the residents of Manorview to determine future needs. This mission is currently being coordinated by the overall Mission Committe, but is looking for a new leader with a passion for this ministry. | |
| Meals Ministry |
Lewisburg United Methodist Church is a family and as part of a family we take care of one another. This special team coordinates and prepares meals for members who are coping with caring for an ill family member, caring for someone just out of the hospital or the death of a family member. By providing this nourishment of the body, we also provide nourishment of the soul of both the giver and receiver. |
|
| Media Team | Do you like technology? Have we got the opportunities for you. The Media Team works with the Worship Design Team to provide appropriate audio-visual effects for the Worship service. This team provides projection and sound support for all activities held in the sanctuary, both church sponsored and outside rentals. (Choirs, band, concerts, weddings, business meetings, receptions, etc. ) They record, process, and post the Sunday Service on our website. They create all special DVD's needed for church services. We have opportunities for creating visuals for projection, running projections, working the camera for recordings, working the sound board, and doing computer processing of the recorded material. If interested in being a part of this important team please see Whitt or Melora Waltman. | |
| Men's Fellowship Breakfast |
One Saturday a month, the men of the church get together for breakfast and an inspirational message of faith. These messages may be in testimony, discussion or song. Come and share in these wonderful experiences. And contact Terry Richards if you would like to help cook breakfast. |
|
| Office Angels | Do you enjoy secretarial work, but not want the committment of a permanent scheduled office job? There are opportunities available to team with our secretary to provide additional coverage for the church office. Whether your talents are as a receptionist or more clerical, we have a spot for you. Your talents can be utilized in doing God's work and the scheudule can be as flexible as you desire. Why don't you consider being an office angle? | |
| Phone Calling Team | Do you enjoy talking with others on the phone? The members of this team help in all church ministries by making calls to our church membership. They provide reminders about upcoming committments to assist with nursery care, child-care, and special events. | |
