2009 OFFERING ENVELOPES AVAILABLE

If you used the pre-numbered offering envelopes last year, then look for your name on your 2009 box (located on the table in the welcome area). If you did not have your own box in 2008, there are extra boxes available for this year; or consider signing up for electronic funds transfer.

2009 FLOWER CALENDAR

The Flower Calendar for 2009 is now posted on the bulletin board (located near the hospitality area) for anyone who would like to sign up to supply flowers for the altar on any Sunday during the year. The cost is $20 per arrangement—just mark your payment “Flowers” and drop in the collection plate. You may take your flowers home after the worship service, or they can be left for a shut-in. (Please remember to return the vase after the flowers have gone.)

NEW SERMON SERIES BEGINS TODAY

Get Connected . . . That will be the sermon series Pastor Mike begins today for the Season of Epiphany. The wise men wasted no time when they saw the star in the sky. That same star still shines for you and for me. In this New Year waste no time and get connected to the body of Christ, the church, becoming wise men and wise women still seeking Him while you can. “Come and see” were Jesus’ first words to those who would follow. Wondrously, as you seek you will find more of yourself within the ministries of this church because you will find the living Christ. But you must get out of your seat and get connected.

NEW SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS FOR A "NEW GENERATION"

Today after worship a new Sunday school class called "New Generation" continues in the choir room. It is specially-designed for a younger set, but open to all, and is led by Val Browne. The class focuses on the basics of Christian faith and is currently using Hal Urban's book, The 10 Commandments of Common Sense: Wisdom from the Scriptures for People of All Beliefs.

“THE JESUS I NEVER KNEW” STARTS WEDNESDAY

Make a New Year’s resolution to come out on Wednesday nights in 2009 for a new video-guided Agape series led by Pastor Mike. He will be using renown evangelical writer Philip Yancey’s “Christian Book of the Year,” The Jesus I Never Knew. Have your blinders gently put away and be challenged by the Lord’s words again, “Who do you say I am?” As Yancey writes, “No one who meets Jesus ever stays the same.”

THINKING STEWARDSHIP DURING THIS SEASON

God is so good in taking care of our every need! This winter season we again get our chance to say, “Thank you, O God, for life and for your never-failing love. May our gratitude be shown in our love for you and for your church, the very body of Christ, in our stewardship planning for this new year ahead.” Blue Estimate of Giving cards can be found on the information table by the office. Return the card through the mail or in the weekly offering. Save the small tear off as a “love reminder.”

DON'T FORGET TO "GO KROGERING" FOR THE CHURCH

Remember that one of the easiest forms of supporting the church is to shop at Kroger using one of our gift cards. See Jim Yount if you need a gift card or clarification on how to use them. We get 4 cents on the dollar. Get a card for family and friends, even if they’re out-of-state.

CONTINUE TO RECYCLE USED PRINTER CARTRIDGES

The Youth Fellowship would like to remind everyone that they are still accepting used printer cartridges for recycle. The collection bin is in the gathering area for anyone to drop off their used inkjet cartridges (sorry, no laser cartridges). The youth will receive up to $4 per cartridge.

VIEW SERMONS ON OUR CHURCH WEB SITE

Go to www.lewisburgumc.org for our new web site. It is one you may want to go to often for actual sermons, calendar updates, event highlights and much more. We hope it will be a real evangelistic tool.

SHARE YOUR “RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS”

Pastor Mike challenged us to perform random acts of kindness and report them back to him. You can see him personally or e-mail him at mpratt1@woh.rr.com. He wants to start writing a blog for our church web site, and with your permission, would like to include some stories. The hoped-for effect is to see others be inspired to go out and do the same.

HOSPITALITY VOLUNTEERS AND DONATIONS NEEDED

Our Sunday Hospitality Center is in need of volunteers and donations. What a fulfilling servant opportunity awaits you! You can also donate juice boxes for the children, baked goods, snacks, fruit, and finger-foods. Monetary gifts for food purchases are always welcomed. See Hilde Kehr to put a shine on our Hospitality Center.
